Choose Your Own Maths Presentation

Posted on August 8th, 2007 in Uncategorized by Martin

For my Choose Your Own Maths Presentation I chose Algebra equations. I chose Algebra equations because I wanted to try something new and challenging. My presentation will show you how to solve a simple equation. The question that I’m going to teach you how to solve is: What is the value of Z in the equation Z×250=40000?

Z×250=40000 First we need to make use of the 2 numbers that we already know: Z×250=40000→ 40000?250 But we also need to work out the operation that we are going to use which will be the opposite operation to the one in the number sentence Z×250=40000. Here’s another example: Z+7=16→16?7=Z opposite operation to plus(+) is minus(-)  16-7=Z so 16-7=9 so that means 9=Z. Now back to our main problem. We needed to find the opposite operation to the one in the number sentence Z×250=40000.The operation in the number sentence is times so the opposite operation is divide.(÷).Z×250=40000→ 40000?250→40000÷250=Z.40000÷250=Z will give us the answer to the question.

40000÷250=Z→40000÷250=160 Z=160.The value of Z in the equation Z×250=40000 is 160.
